Dr. Sunil Kakarla
DVM, PH.D, Owner
Dr. Sunil Kakarla, an experienced and compassionate veterinarian in Cary, NC, grew up in India. After graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine in India, he practiced as a companion animal veterinarian for five years in a metropolitan city in India. He moved to the United States in 2005 with a passion for practicing high-quality veterinary medicine in an advanced setting. During that process, he pursued his MS and Ph.D. in a renowned lab at Marshall University in West Virginia.
As a graduate student, Dr. Kakarla performed cutting-edge research and had several high impact publications to his credit. While pursuing graduate studies, he simultaneously completed the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam (NAVLE) in 2010.
Soon after this accomplishment, he began volunteering at several local animal hospitals. He completed his clinical experience program and obtained his license to practice in the US the same year.
In 2011, after graduating with a doctoral degree, he joined a small animal practice in Durham/RTP where he established a huge clientele and treated about 6000 to 7000 pets per year.
With his continued passion to provide the best quality veterinary care, he joined the state-of-the-art Walnut Street Animal Hospital in June 2016. As a veterinarian in the RTP area of NC, he strongly believes in quality care for pets and in being available to his patients when needed.
Sunil Kakarla is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and has special interests in dermatology and soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, as well as emergency medicine. Dr. Kakarla is married and has a son and a daughter. He enjoys spending quality time with his family, including his 1-year-old Golden-Doodle, Brownie, and a 4-year-old Poodle, Milky. He enjoys serving his community by actively helping rescue groups and shelter pets, and in his free time, he plays volleyball.ur pet’s health and happiness

Dr. Madhukar Kolli
DVM, Chief Veterinarian
Dr. Madhukar Kolli is a highly skilled and compassionate veterinarian at Park Road Animal Hospital. With a deep passion for animal care, Dr. Kolli has extensive experience in veterinary medicine and specializes in wellness care, soft tissue surgeries, and preventive care. His commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of pets is evident in his thorough approach to diagnostics and treatment.
Growing up on a farm, Dr. Kolli spent his childhood playing with energetic calves, cows, sheep, and goats, which inspired him to become a veterinarian. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from SV Veterinary University in Tirupathi, India, in 2004 and began his career as a mixed animal veterinarian, working for two years in rural India.
Driven by his enthusiasm to learn more about advancements in veterinary medicine, Dr. Kolli moved to the United States, where he pursued a Master’s and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences. While working toward his Ph.D., he obtained his license to practice small animal medicine in the USA.
Dr. Kolli worked in busy small animal practices for five years before founding Bestcare Animal Hospital. He dedicated his career to providing top-notch care for animals of all breeds and sizes. His expertise and gentle demeanor make him a trusted choice for pet owners seeking the best for their furry companions.
Outside of his professional work, Dr. Kolli advocates for animal welfare and enjoys staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in veterinary medicine. He has worked with several rescue organizations and helped numerous pets find loving homes. His dedication to his patients and their families is unwavering, and he takes pride in making a positive impact on the lives of the animals he treats.

Sarah Van Staalduinen
Administrative Director
Sarah is an NC State graduate with double majors in Animal Science and Applied Nutrition. She has lived with animals her entire life and has always had a special place in her heart for them. She has been with the company since 2019, and she loves her job. Not only does she have the opportunity to meet new people and pets on a daily basis, but she also gets to help those fur babies stay happy and healthy with their families. Her favorite things to do outside of work include spending time with her furry kiddos; two dogs named Ochi and Denali, and two cats named Juniper and George. When she’s not at work, you can find her hiking with her dog, or taking part in any other activities in which she can include them.

Carly
Veterinary Assistant
Carly has been in the veterinary industry since she was in highschool and recently moved to Charlotte in July of 2024. She has volunteered at a few shelters and animal hospitals over the years and has had a love for animals for as long as she can remember. Her dream is to one day own a veterinary hospital herself with hopes of becoming a veterinarian. She has four rescue animals at home, one dog named Harper, and three cats named Maui, Cherry, and Bubbles.

I’ve been working here since the end of July and have fallen in love with this field and will now be majoring in animal science. I have two dogs named Luca and Lola who are Newfie’s.

Born and raised in the Carolina’s. Married to my high school sweetheart for 15 years now, with 3 kiddos (8y, 5y, 3y). Started riding horses around 7 years old, which led to showing western pleasure horses. Currently we have a 7yo Jack Russell (Zip) and a 3 yo Cat (Reese) and a 2yo beardie (Dobby).
I absolutely love learning, & growing within the VetMed field, & loving all our patients as if they’re my own fur babies. Outside of work, I enjoy taking my oldest to Carowinds, watching scary movies, shopping at thrift stores, & tattoos!

Veterinary Assistant
Cheyenne graduated cum laude from UNC Charlotte with a B.S. in Biology and is preparing to apply to veterinary schools in 2026. She has dreamed of becoming a veterinarian for as long as she can remember and is passionate about caring for animals. Outside of work, Cheyenne enjoys spending time with her husband, friends, and her two rescue cats, Trek and Moonie.

Hansika Malapati has a deep passion for animals and hopes to dedicate her life to understanding and caring for them. She has dreamed of becoming a veterinarian for as long as she can remember. Whether observing wildlife or learning about animal behavior, she finds joy in exploring the bond between humans and animals. Outside of school, she loves to dance and hang out with friends and family. She has an older brother and one maltese who she cherishes very much.

Scarleth
Veterinary Assistant
Scarleth graduated high school while earning an A.S. in Biological Sciences from Central Piedmont Community College and is now pursuing a B.S. in Biology on a pre-veterinary track at Queens University of Charlotte. She is passionate about helping others and loves working with animals, with the long-term goal of owning her own veterinary clinic one day. Outside of work, she enjoys studying, spending time with her family, and caring for her dog, Dash.
